What to Expect When Eating Iraqi Cuisine
Iraqi cuisine today reflects Iraq’s long and rich history. Many recipes are also influenced by neighboring countries Turkey,
Iran and Greater Syria. Key ingredients include vegetables such as aubergine, onion and okra, cereals such as rice, barley and
bulgur wheat, and legumes such as lentils, chickpeas and cannellinni with splashes of lemon and lime for flavor. Most meals will
be seasoned with natural flavors from fresh spices, will include rice and grilled.

Meals begin with an appetizer and salad known as Mezze. Some of Iraq’s most famous dishes include the Kebab, Shawarma (grilled
meat sandwich wrap), Bamia (lamb stew), Quzi (lamb), Falafel, Kibbeh (minced meat), Masgouf (grilled fish), and Dolma (stuffed
vegetables).
Most dishes are made from fresh ingredients, from the protein to the vegetables, which also makes them healthy to eat.
